The law in the UK was changed back in 1995 in order to allow civil weddings in approved venues and since then the popularity of civil cermonies has increased to such an extent that in 2012 over 50% of all marriage ceremonies in the UK were of a non religious nature. The use of religious music is banned in civil ceremonies but the law was relaxed a little in 2005 to allow songs which may mention religious imagery but aren't hymns.
